Rick R Reed Returns — Podcast #196 — 03/29/10

Hey sex fans,

We’re back with more of The Erotic Mind of the marvelous author, Rick R Reed. And we really get down and dirty this week. Ya know, since the beginning of this podcast series, well over two years ago, I’ve been wanting to discuss the connection between sex and suspense and sexuality and horror. But not until Rick showed up on the scene was this conversation possible. In this, Part 2 of our chat, I discover his uncanny ability to delve into people’s psychosexual motivations. No wonder he is the master of his craft.

Part 1 of my chat with Rick appeared last week at this time. But wait, did you somehow miss last week’s installment? Well that’s just not right! But don’t worry; you can make it up. All my podcasts are archived right here on my site. All ya have to do is use the site’s search function to your right.  Type in Podcast #194 and PRESTO! But don’t forget the #sign when you do your search.

Rick and I discuss:

  • The different writing skills involved in producing a short story and a novel.
  • His writing is all character driven.
  • The intimate connection between sexuality and suspense.
  • The physical response to fear is similar to sexual arousal.
  • The excitement of danger.
  • Gay fiction and the sizable straight female audience.
  • What he looks for in the erotic art of others.
  • His inspirations.
  • His sexual heroes.
  • What the future holds for him and his work.

As a special treat, Rick will share with us two more dark and fanciful selections of the fruit of his Erotic Mind.

Sex Wisdom with Andrew Epstein — Podcast #195 – 03/24/10

Hey sex fans,

This here is a SEX WISDOM podcast, don’t cha know. The series where we chat with researchers, educators, clinicians, pundits and philosophers who are making news and reshaping how we look at our sexual selves. And today I have something astonishing for you. What if I told you I could introduce you to someone who, through his photography, chronicled our cultural history for the better part of last half-century and is still doing so today? And since a huge part of our cultural history is our sex history, he is the ideal guest for this series.

My guest is none other than Andrew Epstein, photographer, artist, illustrator, art director and cultural raconteur. He is here to chat with us about his life’s work; the people he’s known (and loved) who have changed the course of our society. Among them; Richard Schmiechen, Edmond White, Teri Garr, Roger Ebert, Ann Landers Bette Midler, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Robert Mapplethorpe, Mary Kay Place, Ann Bannon, Grace Jones, Margo St. James, Jeff Bridges, Fred Halstead, Tom of Finland, Leonard Matlovich and Peter Allen. This conversation is not to be missed!

The Erotic Mind of Rick R Reed — Podcast #194 — 03/22/10

Hey sex fans,

I’m happily closing in on my annual Spring Break; at which time I get a well-deserved week off. Glory Hallelujah! I gotta tell, I’ve been going at such a break-neck speed since the new year that the hiatus can’t come a moment too soon. I need a freakin break already.

But before we get to our respite; it’s full steam ahead! We continue The Erotic Mind podcast series today with and outstanding guest. He lives here in Seattle so he mozied on over to mi casa for a little tete a tete. (How’s that for mixing cultural allusions?) I have the distinct pleasure of welcoming a true master of the erotic horror novel, the one and only Rick R Reed.

If you know anything about the contemporary thrillers and speculative fiction market, you’ll know that his name stands out as a beacon of excellence in the genre. In fact, he has been called “the Stephen King of gay horror”. No faint that; I can tell ya! And I’m delighted to report that Rick is not nearly as scary as his novels. He’s a sweetheart and charming as all get-out!

Rick and I discuss:

  • Being a master of the horror and speculative fiction genre.
  • How he writes.
  • Tales Of The Sexual Underground.
  • Writing under his own name.
  • The evolution of the erotic component in his work.
  • Common theme in his work — sexual obsession.
  • The creative life is a difficult life.

As a special treat, Rick will share with us a mouth-watering selection of the fruit of his Erotic Mind. I’ll make your naughty bits all tingly, I promise.

Jeremy Edwards does Dr Dick!

Hey sex fans,

Get a load of this! The delightfully entertaining master of erotica, Jeremy Edwards, talks trash with Dr Dick on his site — HERE. (I guess this is his way of getting back at me for all the nice things I’ve done for him. Like I always say, no good deed goes unpunished.)

All kidding aside, it’s an honor to be in such exalted company once again.Jeremy was my second guest in The Erotic Mind podcast series, don’t cha know. And that was two and a half years ago, if you can believe that. Since then, he’s gone on to become an even bigger and fatter success in the world of erotica. He’s newly published erotic novel, Rock My Socks Off, is receiving critical acclaim. And I feel smarter just knowing him.

Be sure to visit Jeremy and check out the Dr Dick dish.

The Erotic Mind of David Cantero — Podcast #183 — 02/01/10

Hey sex fans,

You know how I keep tellin’ ya that The Erotic Mind podcast series is all about conversations with noted erotic artists of every stripe from all over the world, right? And how our discussions are geared to uncovering something of the creative process involved in this specialized art form, right? Well then, today we take an audio field trip to Europe; Luxembourg, to be exact. So we can chat with the amazing Spanish born erotic visual artist and illustrator, David Cantero.

Sometimes when we travel abroad like this there can be a bit of a language barrier between me and the artist I’m interviewing. David is such a good sport; despite the fact that his English is not as good as his French or Spanish, he still agreed to talk to us. But with just one proviso, that he could invite two of his English-speaking friends, Sean and Julian, to join him while we chatted. So today’s podcast has a bit of a party atmosphere. David’s friends lend a hand with translation when necessary. And we all have a marvelously good time.

David and I discuss:

  • His muses, Sean and Julian.
  • His multi-national background.
  • His “day job” at The Picture Factory.
  • Publishing his own comics in Spain.
  • How he got his start as an erotic artist.
  • What inspires his erotic images.
  • Current trends in erotic comics.
  • Defining what is art and what is erotic.
  • The difference between erotic art and pornography.
  • His other work, which includes syfy, horror and children’s books.

You absolutely must visit David on his website and get an eye full of his delicious artwork. Look for it HERE!
